Good Cheap Food in Japan

Just a quick bit of advice for those who are wondering if they can eat cheaply and well in Japan. My advice if you need some good, and quick food, go to a bakery. The food is always fresh and the prices are always right. You can get a much better and cheaper meal than pretty much any fast food. Nice fresh bread, sandwiches... even desserts.

I'm sure that those of you live in Japan pretty much know this stuff already. My favorites are probably La Vie de France, and Little Mermaid.

Offally Good!

Had a big ole' fancy dinner for our Anniversary... okay it wasn't fancy... but it was good. We went to a VERY busy and LIVELY place, that really wasn't too far for us, just in front of Itoyokado. Kiyomi wanted to go to a Horumon place in Oomori (the station near where I live)and have a Nabe.

Horumon for those of you who don't know is basically the intestine of a pig or a cow (I think usually a pig here...). Although the restaurants will say horumon for what they specialize in, most of the time they have a lot of different kind of Offal.

Nabe is a kind of Japanese hot pot, sort of a soup. This is what it looks like when basiclaly prepared with vegetables and guts (and tofu):

If you're squeamish... I would probably recommend against trying this stuff. I like it though. We also had some Yaki horumon, and a few other treats. The place it turned out also did some really nice Yakkitori. I liked the Ebi... at first I thought it might be a bit over done... but it wasn't and the seasoning was really good too.

The one thing though that I couldn't bring myself to try... even though I really thought I could was this. Raw Liver... Liver Sashi... (I'm not a fan of Basashi - raw horse - either). So I skipped it and Kiyomi enjoyed it all on her own.

Washed all the grub down with a couple of beers and then staggered home with the misses. Was a good night. If you want something different, definitely worth a try. This place is good too... as even if you don't want to have the Offal they had plenty of other really good food on the menu.

5 years Yesterday!

Well... it was our Five year anniversary yesterday... amazing. Doesn't seem that long ago! Was a great party for us all. Thanks very much still to all those that tagged along and made it a very special day.

Halloween In tokyo

Hey there. A quick picture of some folks walking out of a Denny's in Osaki. Was hanging out at the footnik with a couple of friends having a couple of beers. A very quiet Halloween for us three. Although we did see a few folks in costume... these three folks were kind enough to allow me to take there picture.

Halloween has become a bigger and bigger event in Japan over the last few years. I think that its a pretty popular even more for folks in there 20's than it is for kids. People tend to dress up ('cause the Japanese tend to like a little bit of costume play...) and then go out drinking. But we never have any kids going around the neighborhood saying "trick or treat" or anything. Shame in a way.

Some numpty foreigners have a party on the Yamanote train. I don't really have a huge issue with this, but I've seen there Youtube videos and found their attitudes pretty revolting. Very arrogant as though they know it all and all those who disagree with them are ignorant. Me... At this point in my life, would prefer a couple (or few) quiet beers with friends.
